The Heleloa family originated on the Big Island of Hawai'i. When the king and other chiefs wanted to send messages to people in the villages, they would send runners. These runners were known as 'hele loa' - the Hawaiian translation is roughly 'to go a far distance' or 'to go on forever.'
The heleloa were information runners, and now that’s what I’m going to attempt to do – take all things Hawai’i and share them with the mainland. Well, at least California. It’s my way of helping transplant locals (and locals at heart) feel just a little closer to home.
